THE BEGINNING
Rhys is a lancer knight, born in the mountains of Coerthas before the fall of Dalamud brought an endless landscape of ice to the land. He grew enamoured with the soaring Dragoons travelling alone across the wastes, slaughtering the dragons that preyed upon members of their clan. He took up the spear as his weapon of choice, inspired by their fearlessness and freedom against such a foe. His father, a member of the Radiant Host, took it upon himself to train his son in the ways of Thavnairian lancework.After the slaughter of the Orl by the temple knights, Rhys and his father were turned away from the bickering city-states of Eorzea, each occupied too much with their own struggles to accept yet another pair of refugees. Rhys instead fled with his father back to Thavnair, where he spent his teen years and adulthood training with the Radiant Host.His father accepted a position as a captain guard, and Rhys accompanied him to many diplomatic missions in Garlemald. Despite his best efforts, he became embroiled in many a Garlean political movement, and was resented by many of his Au’ri brethren for being sympathetic to the Garlean cause. Seen as a valuable tactical resource, Rhys is joined by the elezen diplomat Luto in missions of interest to both Garlemald and the Neutral nations of Etheyris.Tired of not fitting in with the Ra’en of Thavnair and full of admiration for Ishgard remaining largely independent, he leaves for Coerthas with Luto to fight tooth and claw for admission into the Knights Dragoon. He watches his back constantly for any of his ex-tribesmen who may be hunting for him along the way, while trying to come to terms with whispers of a past life and a bigger destiny fed to him by those he trusts most.

He has spent a fair bit of time throughout Ethyeris, including Garlemald at wartime; He may not jump to be defensive of Garleans, but he'll absolutely have a kneejerk response to anti-Garlemald or anti-Neutrality sentiments, especially coming from an Eorzean.BETWEEN TWO WORLDS // Rhys' scale pattern is complex and mottled, spread across his body in patterns more complex than the thick armor of the Xaela but less decorative than the decadent patterns of the Ra'en. He's obviously not one or the other, and pure black scale melts into iridescent white. He can easily get along with anyone who walks the lines between destiny.UNORTHODOX LANCEWORK // Rhys employs a hodgepodge mix of polearm fighting styles, with techniques learned from serving with the Radiant Host, his time spent as a dragoon of Ishgard, and what skills of the plains his mother could teach him before his tribe was annihilated. Battling him can never be said to be boring, and despite his best protests, he'll never say no to a genuine challenge. He can't seem to say no to mages, either...BY THE THROAT // Like any Au'ra worth their salt, Rhys has his number of scars littered across his body, but some seem a bit more pointed than others. Most noticeable is a set of gouges, as if made by a great clawed hand, etched into the scales of his throat. Try touching them and you're probably in for some trouble.SPACING OUT & HYPER FOCUS // He's got the look of a widower to him, and frequently stares just beyond a person's gaze, as if he's seeing something that isn't quite there. If he's drowning his sorrows, there's probably something a little more to it than just a simple drunkard.DO YOU BELIEVE IN MAGIC // Rhys can perform aether work, but it's not his favourite battle tool.
